Cities Competition

Cities Competition

After the successful launch of the pilot cities competition in 2007 and because of continuing high demand for participation in subsequent years, Pride of Place will again host a special competition for the 10 cities, North and South, in 2011. Separate information will issue to the relevant Liaison Officers. Please note this competition will have separate entry forms and judging criteria. The judging criteria for the population categories are in the PDF form below: the judging criteria for the single issue categories are the same as in the main competition. Those city councils in Northern Ireland, which are also district councils, may enter both competitions. If you are in any doubt as to your eligibility, kindly contact Maurice Inglis in Co-operation Ireland. Contact details are elsewhere in this website.

Categories and Awards
After wide consultation it has been decided this year to change the two population categories to better reflect demand and to designate three relevant single issue themes (see below). Each local authority may nominate in up to a maximum of five categories. One entry only may be submitted in any individual category.

These are the categories:

  • Category 1 – under 1,000 people
  • Category 2 – over 1,000 people
  • Category 3 – Single issue - Sport in the Community
  • Category 4 –Single issue - Community Health Initiative
  • Category 5 - Single issue - Community Enhancement Project
  • Category 6 - Housing Estates - not population specific
