Co-operation Ireland support all Ireland police rugby team

Today (2 November) the newly branded Ireland Police Rugby team took on a British Police Select Team at Newforge in Belfast. The Ireland Police Rugby Team is a combination of members of An Garda Síochána and the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

Ireland Police Rugby was founded in 2003. However, today will be their first game playing in their new kits, which display the newly designed Ireland Police Rugby badge. It is also the third fixture against the British Police, with the winners this year taking away a newly presented Challenge Cup.

IPC Seminar – The Northern Irish Identity Debate

The Irish Peace Centres in partnership with Queen University Belfast hosted a seminar on Northern Irish Identity at Queens University’s Canada Room on 2 November.

The seminar was a follow up to the IPC Summer School event where the future direction of the Northern Irish identity was deliberated. During today seminar these ideas were further explored. The seminar concentrated on " Does the Northern Irish identity contribute to peace building?"

Co-operation Ireland is delighted to bring you details on the annual Gala Dinner to be held at Queen’s University, Belfast on Thursday 24 November 2011.

This year’s prestigious black tie dinner is taking on the format of a rugby themed evening, recognising the positive input towards a peaceful society made by Irish Rugby over the last three decades. The 5-course banquet in the Great Hall will be preceded by a Champagne Reception in the Canada Room, where guests will have an opportunity to mingle with some of the greats of Irish Rugby.

Co-operation Ireland’s Big Palava is coming soon

Funded by the Belfast City Council’s Good Relations Partnership, Co-operation Ireland will convene and facilitate a community-based event on 1 December 2011 aimed at reducing Racism and Sectarianism within the city of Belfast.

The conference will have a unique structure, its content and discussion will be decided on and driven by the participants themselves - they will decide what is to be discussed and how it is to be discussed. The format that we will be utilising is that of Open Space Technology where we will employ the following principles:

2012 Maracycle dates confirmed – 23 & 24 June 2012

The much-anticipated 2012 Maracycle will take over the weekend of 23 & 24 June commencing in Belfast. Take on the challenge of cycling between the two major cities of Belfast and Dublin. 220 miles both directions or option of cycling one way only from Belfast to Dublin or Dublin to Belfast. Shorter options also available.

We are working hard to ensure the 2012 event is one of our best, so make sure you have nothing else planned for that weekend. We look forward to seeing you at the start line.

Press-Up Challenge

group of fitness enthusiasts from Newry are taking on an unusual challenge of doing 12 hours of press-ups and sit-ups to raise funds for Co-operation Ireland and Southern Area Hospice.

Pictured at the launch of the event at Quays Shopping Centre, Newry are some of the participants, stalwart supporter of Co-operation Francie Craven, Head of Fundraising at Co-operation Ireland Terry O’Neill, a representative from Southern Area Hospice and event organiser Steven Henning.

The challenge takes place during September and October with the final event taking place on 29 October 2011.
